PMADs 101 Frequently Asked Questions
After completing the training, you will be able to:
- Explain the difference between PMADs symptoms vs. “typical” perinatal distress
- Discuss PMADs’ risk factors and other cultural considerations
- Assess and identify concerning levels of perinatal distress (aka potential PMADs)
- Recall a local and national resource that provides personalized perinatal referrals.
PMADs 101 serves as an introduction to the conditions known as Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and is geared towards the Prevention and Early Intervention of PMADs.
Since Perinatal Mental Health is not addressed in the general education of healthcare practitioners, and because perinatal individuals typically see a wide variety of professionals prior to speaking to a clinician about their mental health (if they ever do), this course is ideal for any professional working with individuals in the perinatal period (pregnancy through 24 months postpartum). Prior knowledge of PMADs or schooling in Mental Health is not necessary.
After this training, you will be able to effectively identify someone with PMADs, provide them with support/psychoeducation, and, if needed, refer them to their local/national treatment resource. For that reason, PMADs 101 is appropriate for pre and post-licensure level clinicians*, as well as allied professionals of all educational levels/backgrounds.
*PLEASE NOTE: PMADs 101 does NOT address the clinical treatment of PMADs.
