Dr. Elkind is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with an interest in treating women throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Dr. Elkind completed her medical education at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL and an adult psychiatry residency program at University of California, Irvine, where she completed advanced clinical training in Women's Mental Health. She was previously a Staff Psychiatrist at VA San Diego Healthcare System and an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSD. While working at the VA, Dr. Elkind routinely took care of female veterans struggling with depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy. She also has experience working with survivors of trauma and PTSD. Dr. Elkind has completed advanced psychopharmacology training through Postpartum Support International. She also has specialized training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and sees patients for both medication management and/or psychotherapy. As a mom of two young boys and someone who has experienced postpartum mental health struggles herself, Dr. Elkind understands how challenging this period can be and how important it is to get help.
